Productivity Metrics and Models
نویسنده
چکیده
1. Introduction A conceptual framework is required for understanding the relative merits and utility of alternate computer systems for high performance: their architecture, execution model, and software methods for programming and operation. The general concept of " productivity " has been articulated as that attribute of the entire process of computing that delivers ultimate value to the end user mission. Productivity is defined to reflect the rate, value, and costs of producing computational results in contribution to achieving mission objectives of the using institution. While there is general consensus as to the importance and abstract nature of a productivity value of merit, there is not a common viewpoint of the specific metric and its formulation by which to quantitatively characterize it. The contribution of this paper is to propose a conceptual framework within which to consider productivity as a parameter and a formulation by which to quantify it. The objective of this framework is to establish a set of mutually consistent and complementary metrics that satisfy the discipline of dimensional analysis and that together provide a rigorous definition of productivity. It is the intent of this work that its results may serve as a tool for evaluation and comparison of alternate high performance computing systems.

A Model for Performance Management and Estimation
—Traditional cost estimation models in software engineering are based on the concept of productivity defined as the ratio of output to input; for instance, detailed software estimation models, such as COCOMO, can take multiple factors into account, but their multipliers lead to a single perspective based on the productivity concept. A less explored relationship in software engineering is the on...

Background and Objectives : In the current age, due to the increasing growth of knowledge and competition therein, evaluation of scientific products by means of scientometric methods has become a very important and necessary subject. Scientometrics, in simple words, is the science of measuring the knowledge. Scientometric indices are divided into three categories: productivity metrics that me...
متن کاملSoftware Reuse and Reusability Metrics and Models
As organizations implement systematic software reuse programs to improve productivity and quality, they must be able to measure their progress and identify the most effective reuse strategies. This is done with reuse metrics and models. In this paper, we survey metrics and models of software reuse and reusability, and provide a classification structure that will help users select them. Six type...
متن کاملQualitative Evaluation Criteria for Parallel Programming Models
Programming parallel machines has always been difficult, but the new multicore reality has triggered significant research projects such as those part of the DARPA HPCS challenge that put forth programmer productivity as on par with performance. Since programming models are crucial in supporting the programming of parallel machines, this raises the question of how the PLDI community should evalu...
متن کاملConception and Experience of Software Reuse and Reusability Metrics and Models - an Academic Review
There are already a number of studies and "success stories" about practical applications related to software reuse. For the most part, however the actual benefits of reuse, particularly for concrete technologies are difficult to verify. As organizations implement systematic software reuse programs to improve productivity and quality, they must be able to measure their progress and identify the ...

OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to assess construct and discriminant validity of four health-related work productivity loss questionnaires in relation to employer productivity metrics, and to describe variation in economic estimates of productivity loss provided by the questionnaires in healthy workers. METHODS Fifty-eight billing office workers completed surveys including health informati...
